Last night was our first session of Parents as Teachers. This program is designed to offer developmental information and support to parents of young children. Darin and I were not sure what to expect. Our educator brought a lot of items for Madison to see, feel , touch, hear and "taste". Madison thought she needed to taste everything, right now everything goes in her mouth, even her foot! First, Madison was given a metal bowl filled with different balls (tennis,
wiffle,
hacky-sack, and beanbag). She reached for all of the balls one at a time and enjoyed hearing the clanging of the metal bowl. Then she tried to eat the metal bowl. Next, Madison showed off her "tummy-time" skills, which she is not too fond of. Her head and her bottom are in the air, she is really working her legs and trying to figure out her arms. She started to get a little fuzzy, so the educator had Madison stand,
ahh no more fussiness. Darin and I have recently realized that Madison gets fussy because she wants to stand. We hold her at her waist and she's starts to take a few steps then falls on her bum. But she laughs. Our educator was quite amazed with the strength that Madison has at only five months. Next, there was a bag filled with water and numerous toys so Madison could feel different objects. The final was a hearing "test." There were three objects (bell, bottle with rice and a squeak toy). Madison was facing Darin when the "test" was going on and her eyes got really big after each noise, especially the bell (which made her shake a little). Overall we were pleased with the session. Not only did Madison pass, but Darin and I did as well. We're doing something right! =) Our next session is in March and I have a lot of reading to prepare for the next "test."
On Monday, Madison will be getting her next round of shots. Again, Darin will be holding and rocking both of us.
