the Amazing Jen
This week worked has really consumed my life. There have been changes to the organization I will report through and as a result, a slight alteration to my responsibilities. This has led to some several meetings getting people up to speed and some new directions. Furthermore I learned that we have 2 major clients moving at the same pace. This means I'm going to be torn in 2 and traveling a lot more. Yet Jen took care of everything this week. She slept with Madison to make sure she doesn't choke when she coughs at night as well managed more things around the house than normal. I couldn't have made it through this week without her.
It is going to be 12 years of marriage this year and Jen continues to amaze me....

Rollin...Rollin..Rollin...
Tonight as Darin and I sat down for the evening, Madison was playing with her toys on the quilt. All of the sudden, Madison flipped over like a pancake (from her back to her stomach), she was full of smiles. But then she struggled as she could not figure out how to turn back. She then did it again. Unfortunately, our camera is not fast enough to catch the action shot, just the finale!

Dude (a.k.a. Sonic)..got a hair cut!
This week it was time for Sonic to be pampered. He spent the day at Shoal Creek Animal Place. It had been awhile since he was last there. He makes his presence known when we drop him off. The minute we enter the place he barks uncontrollable, once they pick him up to take him back to his suite, he as quiet as a mouse. He had a great day, he was in daycare most of the day and also got a hair cut. Thought you'd like to see dude...

Fitting in the bouncy seat a little better
Madison continues to enjoy bouncing in her jump & go. She has learned how to spin around and play the music. Still gets a little scared if the seat spins on its own, but she definitely is getting better use out of the chair. It is amazing how much bigger she looks in it compared to earlier pictures we've posted on this blog.
Nebraska Football 2008
A link to a youtube video about the 2008 Husker football season. They have some nice highlights. Wish they would have more from the bowl game, but it was nice to be reminded of some of the big plays throughout the year.

Happy 5 month birthday and vaccination day...
Today for Madison's five month birthday it was time for her next round of well born vaccinations. This round included five vaccinations, with only one orally. Her oral vaccination was first and very traumatic. She screamed, turned red, kicked and had "water puddle" tears. As I was calming her down, the nurse prepared to administer the other four vaccinations. Madison was relaxed and had calmed down and I was singing to her, soothing her head and holding her finger, when the nurse said, "we're done." Madison had no reaction to the four vaccinations in her thigh...OMG the thought of it makes me squeal. We made it through another round, thank goodness.

Parents as Teachers
Last night was our first session of Parents as Teachers. This program is designed to offer developmental information and support to parents of young children. Darin and I were not sure what to expect. Our educator brought a lot of items for Madison to see, feel , touch, hear and "taste". Madison thought she needed to taste everything, right now everything goes in her mouth, even her foot! First, Madison was given a metal bowl filled with different balls (tennis, wiffle, hacky-sack, and beanbag). She reached for all of the balls one at a time and enjoyed hearing the clanging of the metal bowl. Then she tried to eat the metal bowl. Next, Madison showed off her "tummy-time" skills, which she is not too fond of. Her head and her bottom are in the air, she is really working her legs and trying to figure out her arms. She started to get a little fuzzy, so the educator had Madison stand, ahh no more fussiness. Darin and I have recently realized that Madison gets fussy because she wants to stand. We hold her at her waist and she's starts to take a few steps then falls on her bum. But she laughs. Our educator was quite amazed with the strength that Madison has at only five months. Next, there was a bag filled with water and numerous toys so Madison could feel different objects. The final was a hearing "test." There were three objects (bell, bottle with rice and a squeak toy). Madison was facing Darin when the "test" was going on and her eyes got really big after each noise, especially the bell (which made her shake a little). Overall we were pleased with the session. Not only did Madison pass, but Darin and I did as well. We're doing something right! =) Our next session is in March and I have a lot of reading to prepare for the next "test."
On Monday, Madison will be getting her next round of shots. Again, Darin will be holding and rocking both of us.

No Fun in Naples
On Sunday I travelled to Naples, Florida for a business meeting. The plan was to fly through Dallas to Ft. Meyer and then drive south to Naples. American was having some flight delays so we changed to a Delta flight via Atlanta to Ft. Meyer. We landed about 11:30 pm, drove south for about 40 mins and then checked into our hotel. This is when the excitement began.
About 1 am I started feeling ill. Not sick ill but like my insides wanted to come out ill. I immediately suspected food poisoning. I didn't have a fever, or chills, or any other signs of something else. Instead I just couldn't keep anything down. I spent the night in this state and had to call off all the meetings scheduled for Monday. It was about 1pm that I was finally keeping down liquids and solids at 5pm. I basically slept from 6pm that night until 7:30 the next morning before getting ready for my Tuesday meetings. We had a great two days planned and my illness wasted one. I wasn't too happy. Further, it was 75 in Naples. I would have loved to hang out at the beach in the evening.
Tonight I talked with my parents and told them my story. It turns out that after they returned home from KC over the weekend, they got sick. Same type of stuff with the stomach churning and no fever, etc. I guess it was some type of bug and not food poisoning. I'm just glad it happened after we landed and not during. I can laugh now, but that wouldn't have been funny.

End of Another College Football Season
Once again we are faced with the end of the college football season. I really wish I was more into college basketball, but for some reason, I get bored watching it. The NFL is fine but I can't stand the NBA. Thursday will officially mark the end of watching multiple games on Saturday, cheering for your favorite team and Monday morning quarterbacking. It marks the end of pacing behind the chair, jumping up when your team makes a play and groaning when a safety gets burned deep. But mostly, it means spring ball is too far away.
I guess I'll have to settle for watching hockey in my redwings jersey. Guess life isn't all bad...
